  • I ordered, Halal Boyz, the other night for dinner. Had got their Large Mixed Over Rice Platter and my guest ordered their Chicken Over Rice Platter. My guest said that Chicken Over Rice Platter was very good, and I can personally say that their Mixed Over Rice Platter was phenomenal! Great portion size, extremely tasty, and fresh tasting. Absolutely enjoyed my platter. The rice had great flavor and the seasonings on the lamb and chicken mixed was great as well too. All in all, it was a great experience, and I also absolutely loved the food! I would highly recommend, Halal Boyz, to anyone looking for some fresh, tasty, Halal food in the Newark Area!

  • The gentleman who took our order was very efficient and friendly. The food came out quickly. It was good and warm, very tasty. Unfortunately, I could not give the atmosphere the top stars because of the location and peple walking in

  • With a few minutes to spare, I ducked into this counter-service spot on Broad Street for an early lunch. I’d hoped to try the lamb—my favorite—but past letdowns persuaded me to play it safe with the chicken over rice. The dish arrived quickly: finely shredded chicken, well-spiced with a satisfying kick, piled onto a generous bed of rice. For an $11 fast-food meal, it was filling, flavorful, and exactly what you’d expect from a grab-and-go joint. Service was brisk and polite. One oddity: the plate came with a single bite-sized piece of bread—hardly enough to scoop up the rice or sauce. A fuller portion of pita would have been welcome. Keep your expectations in line with the format; this isn’t fine dining, but for a quick, reliable lunch in the neighborhood, it does the job without disappointment.

  • Low key, the Philly cheesesteak is . There is no way it can compete with the real thing but it's extremely satisfying and potentially more handleable than a platter. Also the platter might let you down but the cheesesteak won't. Just be aware that they have a peculiar system... If you ask for anything Italian (Italian cheesesteak or Italian cheeseburger for example), they put fries on it, which to me doesn't sense because fries are not even remotely affiliated with Italy. If anything they could be connected to France because we call them French fries. They misheard me when I called in an order once and they thought I asked for Italian cheesesteak and I had French fries in my cheesesteak. I was trying to feel slightly not too unhealthy about my late night snack so I didn't want fries on top of the delicious greasy meat and cheese and peppers and sauce, so make sure you clarify that you want a Philly cheesesteak not an Italian cheesesteak. All in all, you should not have high expectations and if you don't you will be happy. If you are an experienced eater of street meat from carts in the city, their platter is different, and should not be held to the same standards. They are open late and are always quite friendly so these are the big positives that you should consider if you're in Newark and you're hungry and it's 2am.

  • When I preordered over the phone guy was very polite and helpful. A lot of the reviews did not have updated menus and prices so I update below. I ordered the 6 piece whiting with french fries and a fish fillet sandwich. I must say you get your monies worth in this place. It was a little expensive ($15.00), but the fish was definitely worth it. The sizes were absolutely filling after just 2 pieces, if that. (Only issue is it was lightly seasoned) The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly so it was actually a good combo. This fish fillet was again lightly seasoned l, but it was okay for the most part. Give this place a try if you like halal food.
